You enter a room with 3 light switches on the wall, each controlling one of 3 light bulbs in another room. You can only enter the room with the bulbs once. How can you determine which switch controls each bulb?

Hint: Think about the properties of light and heat!

St. Pete Startup Fango Takes on Ticket Giants with Transparent, Local Approach

Jeffrey Pope, founder of Fango

Jeffrey Pope, a former senior engineer at Barstool Sports, launched Fango, a St. Petersburg startup challenging major ticketing platforms. The idea came after he was frustrated by high fees when selling a playoff ticket in 2021. Fango offers transparent ticket pricing, avoiding hidden fees and surge pricing common with competitors.

The platform initially focuses on Tampa Bay events, aiming for area-specific customization across the country. Pope, who self-funded Fango and partnered with two minority owners, wants to create an affordable and stress-free experience for local sports fans.

Answer:

Turn on the first switch and leave it on for a few minutes.

  1. Then, turn off the first switch and turn on the second switch.

  2. Immediately, go to the room with the bulbs.

Now, you’ll find:

  • The bulb that is on corresponds to the second switch (because it's currently on).

  • The bulb that is off and warm corresponds to the first switch (it was on for a while and then turned off).

  • The bulb that is off and cold corresponds to the third switch (it was never turned on).

This way, you can identify which switch controls each bulb!
