St. Pete Native Launches AI Startup to Revolutionize Therapy Note-Taking

After returning to St. Petersburg in 2022, techie Cole Smith founded Numa Notes, inspired by his mother's busy therapy clinic. With degrees in computer science from NYU and a passion for machine learning, Smith created Numa Notes to automate clinical note-taking and free up therapists' time.

The AI-driven platform launched in April and already has about 100 therapists using it. The startup joined the Tampa Bay Innovation Center's climate tech accelerator program in May and aims to expand its user base and secure investments. Smith, who previously worked as a machine learning engineer at Morgan Stanley, is dedicated to building responsible AI practices, ensuring the platform uses a mix of private and public data without compromising user privacy.

Numa Notes is on a mission to solve mental health challenges by empowering therapists with cutting-edge technology.

Tampa Startup Lumina AI Partners with Intel to Enhance AI Efficiency

Tampa-based Lumina AI is working with Intel to improve AI efficiency, addressing concerns about energy and water consumption. By joining Intel's Liftoff program, Lumina aims to scale its operations and refine its "random contrast learning" algorithm, which uses central processing units (CPUs) instead of the more energy-intensive graphics processing units (GPUs).

This partnership will help Lumina leverage Intel's expertise to create a more sustainable AI model. Daniella Diaz, Lumina's VP of Revenue and Marketing, sees this as a crucial step in making AI technology more accessible and cost-effective for businesses.

Koda Health recently won the prestigious Reuters Digital Health 2024 Startup Pitch Challenge. The company, who is part of Tampa Bay Wave’s 2023 TechDiversity Accelerator impressed the judges with its innovative platform that simplifies advance care planning by bridging clinical and legal aspects.

Founded in 2020, Koda Health aims to make advance care planning accessible and affordable, particularly for Medicare beneficiaries who might not afford traditional methods. CEO Tatiana Fofanova highlighted the platform's potential to ease healthcare navigation by providing crucial legal documents and planning tools without the high costs associated with estate attorneys and direct-to-consumer solutions​
